Classroom Information
Arrival
The school day begins at 8:20. Students will be tardy at 8:25. On a day with a late start, the day begins at 9:20 and students will be tardy at 9:25. When you drop your child off they will go to the gym where I will pick them up for the day. If you are tardy, please take your child to the office to sign them in. If your child will be absent please call the main office to let us know.
Dismissal
The school day ends at 3:30. Please be by the second grade door at this time. If your child goes to latchkey, we will send them at 3:30. If you are not there to pick up your child by 3:40, they will be taken to the office and then sent to latchkey.
Snacks
We will eat one snack around 10:00 each day. Please make sure to send your child with a healthy snack to have during the morning.
Lunch Count
In second grade, we are more independent with lunch count. At the beginning of every month I will send home a lunch menu. Please circle any days that you would like your child to order. Students will keep their menus in the back of their take home folder. Every morning your child will be responsible for looking at their menu to see if they are ordering for the next day. They will place their name in either the A or B column so that I can order lunch for them.
Lunch
Our lunch is from 11:30-12:23. Students eat in the cafeteria and then have a recess outside. We try to have students go outside as many days as possible. Please keep track of the weather and send the appropriate clothing.
Take-home Folder
Your child has a take-home folder that needs to travel back and forth to school everyday. Students will put important flyers, homework, and work from school in the folder each day. If you ever have anything to turn into me, put it in the folder as well.
Homework
There will be no homework that is due on a particular date this year. Each week I will send home spelling and grammar skills to practice, as well as an example of what we are working on in math. Any extra practice you do at home is up to you. Of course, I will let you know if I believe your child needs practice with anything in particular. I strongly suggest getting in at least 20 minutes of reading every night!
Specials
Our specials schedule is listed on the homepage of this website. Make sure to have gym shoes on gym days and library books on library days.
Field Trips
We will go on two field trips this year. We will go to the Troy Nature Center in the fall and to Henry Ford Museum in the spring.
Volunteers
If you are interested in volunteering in the classroom, let me know. I usually don't have too many regular volunteers, but will contact the group when I have a larger project to do. You will also have a few opportunities to volunteer during the year on days such as Halloween, Field Day, and field trips. All volunteers will need to fill out volunteer paperwork.
If you ever have ANY questions or concerns I am always available!
